Special Olympics

The Pilgrim Area Collaborative sponsors students with disabilities for participation in the Special Olympics. Our Special Olympics team is called "PAC Penguins" and they take part in a variety of sporting events.
Staff, families and community friends support the PAC Penguins by providing coaching for both practice and competitions such as bowling, swimming and track events. Our new season is gearing up and we are excited to participate!
SPRING 2013 - UPCOMING EVENTS
Candlepin Bowling Championship
March 17th, 2013 at Alley Kat Lanes in Kingston, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
We have approximately 42 bowlers in two sessions participating, overseen by PAC parent, Jim Wallace. An awards ceremony will follow each of the two sessions.
Swimming
The PAC team practices every Sunday morning from 9-10:30, with the help of a large number of wonderful volunteers from many area high schools.
Championship Swim Meet is scheduled for April 28th, 2013 at Bridgewater State University.
New this year!! We have been asked to pilot a program for Unified Swimming. Unified means each athlete has a typical partner athlete – they swim the same event, their finish times are averaged and a combined finish is figured. Relays would include 2 athletes/2 partners. Using the proposed team concept, we could create teams of 6-8 athletes/unified partners together. If this pilot program progresses well, we may send some of these athletes and partners to states in June to "showcase" the event.
Track
The track athletes will begin training at the end of March. Location still to be determined. Stay tuned for more details.
